Royal Mint unveils Jane Austen £2
The Royal Mint has unveiled a new £2 coin featuring author Jane Austen to mark the 200th anniversary of her death. The new design is emblazoned with a silhouette of the Sense and Sensibility author’s head overlaid by her signature on a backdrop of Regency wallpaper.
The coins have been launched by the Royal Mint to mark two centuries since the writer’s death aged 41 on July 18 1817. They will be circulated in locations across Hampshire with links to the author including Winchester Cathedral, the Jane Austen museum in Alston and across Basingstoke from July 18.
